Ms Holly Thompson
Safety Engineer

Career Description

What I Do

Occupational safety and health professionals strive to identify, evaluate and eliminate or control hazards which expose people, property or the environment to danger or harm. My profession is concerned with the prevention of injuries and illnesses that may occur in the workplace. I will go into various industries and provide recommendations as to how they can minimize worker exposure to various hazards.

Why Engineering?

I chose this field because of the large amount of opportunities that are offered. Being a male dominant field, there are so many opportunities for women out there. This career path also offers competative pay which is an added bonus!

The Best Part of Being an Engineer

I love how there are so many opportunities out there, specifically in the safety engineering field. I also love being able to help eliminate various hazards that minimize workers to hazardous environments. It's very rewarding.

Challenges

Being a young female in this role can be challenging because I am typically working with males who have been in the field for many years. Maintaining a professional attitude and persistance is very important in my field of work.

Hobbies

I love doing yoga! I also love spending time with my friends and being outside. Spending time by the lake or at the beach is my favorite thing to do. I also just got a new puppy that I love spending time with!

Want to be an Engineer?

This is probably one of the greatest professions to get into as a female. Sometimes the math and science classes can feel overwhelming but stick with it! It's definitely worth it.

School Days

I went to Oakland University in Rochester, MI. I have my Bachelors of Science in Occupational Safety and Health.
